Woman in discomfort due to dental emergency

A dental emergency is something that many people wish they could avoid entirely. Life is unpredictable, and whether it’s a sporting accident or a severe toothache, situations like these might make you look for your nearest emergency dentist. Fortunately, visits like these are a great way to get relief quickly. Read on to learn more about what to expect during an emergency dental appointment.

Step 1: Examination

When it’s time for your emergency dental visit, the first thing that’ll happen is that the front office team will check you in. After that, they will take you to your treatment room. Your dentist will come by and start to get a better understanding of the issue. They do this by performing an oral exam and potentially taking some X-rays. With this information, the problem will be diagnosed, and your dentist will lay out treatment options.

Step 2: Treatment of the Problem

Depending on what treatment is best for you, it may be delivered on the same day. For instance, simple procedures, such as cavity fillings, can be done during that visit. Your dentist will use an anesthetic to make sure you’re comfortable and then begin the treatment. Then you’ll be all ready to go!

In some cases, you may not have time to get the entire procedure, or your dentist recommends you come back for it, then they will perform a temporary fix. They’ll still prioritize your comfort and do their best to give you relief until a permanent solution can be implemented.

Step 3: Follow-Up Visit

Once your dentist has worked their magic, they may have you come back in a few days or weeks. This follow-up appointment will let your dentist see if you’re healing nicely and ensure the problem is gone, or give you the oral healthcare you need. No matter what the scenario, you may get prescribed some medication to help with any discomfort while you wait or during your recovery.

Thankfully, emergency dental trips aren’t that much different from a routine visit. While they are more urgent, your dentist will take the steps needed to alleviate your discomfort. You may be able to relax a little more and look forward to the relief that comes with the appointment by knowing your dentist wants the best for your oral health.
