As people age, it\u2019s common for them to see their teeth change remarkably over time. For example, it\u2019s common for seniors to see their teeth gradually become discolored. This is because of the natural thinning of the enamel, one that can potentially expose the darker layers of the teeth underneath the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Such people can take advantage of many different cosmetic treatments in order to improve the color of their smile. Teeth whitening can make a huge difference by removing surface stains from the teeth, while direct bonding and veneers can cover up especially problematic discoloration completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Risks of Poor Oral Health<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

All things being equal, your age shouldn\u2019t have any impact on your ability to get cosmetic dentistry. However, most dentists will refrain from performing any kind of cosmetic treatment if the patient is currently suffering from oral health problems, like gum disease or rampant cavities. Seniors are at a much higher risk for these conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This doesn\u2019t have to delay cosmetic care indefinitely, but it does mean that seniors are more likely to need gum disease therapy, fillings, or crowns before beginning cosmetic treatment.
